Skin Care Products FAQs

My skin is oily; does this mean I don’t need moisturizer?

Everyone needs moisturizer. For those with naturally oil skin a light-weight moisturizer can be used and may actually help decrease oiliness. Often skin is oily because a cleanser is too harsh, causing the sebaceous glands to kick into overdrive, producing more oil than necessary. Using a moisturizer and gentle cleanser can break this cycle.

How do I know if my moisturizer is providing adequate sun protection?

Because facial skin is so delicate an SPF of at least thirty is recommended for daily use. If you spend more time than the average person in the sun then an even higher SPF should be used.

Is it better to wash my face in the morning or at night or both?

The number one beauty commandment: wash your face before bed every night. This removes all the day’s makeup and grime. In the morning a simple rinsing with lukewarm water is all that is needed. Washing too much can actually make skin more prone to breakouts and irritation.

Can I use my body lotion on my face?

No. It’s really better to use a separate facial moisturizer. Some ingredients in body lotion can irritate delicate facial skin.
